well it depends. i have read most of my thoughts in english, though sindhi is my mother tongue and urdu is my national language.

Attachment to a language makes things easier to understand.

I speak english natively and many of the books that have been mentioned are difficult to read even for a native speaker. It seems like many of you want to start with classic english literature like Mark Twain's Hukleberry Fin and J.R. Tolkien's The Lord of The Ring's which are both very difficult books to read. The way most classic english literature is written is very different from how you have learned english because the common language has changed so much. It would be better to start with books written more recently because they are written more like how english is spoken and taught today.

Hi everyone, I started to read books in English some weeks ago and the first one was really hard because I had to look up almost every second word in the dictionaryIndifferent (:|). I think I choose the wrong book for the beginning, it was a novel from Jack London, so the language was pretty old-fashioned and sophisticated. Then I tried Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code and that one I could understand much, much better. The language is much more contemporary and not so complicated as in most of the classics. Thrillers are great for me, too, right now I'm reading "The Bourne Identity" and that one is easy to read as well, I'm really enjoying it. I think the most important thing is that we pick up a book that we are interested in, otherwise it gets boring very quickly.

I started to read a book from Jack London too. It's really so hard!
